The number one concern at Earth Transport Company is safety. We have exacting standards in place to ensure that we hire only the safest and most qualified drivers. Listed below we have some of our safety policies. These policies are covered thoroughly during all employees orientation, and all policies are rigorously enforced.
 

Defensive Driving - Professional drivers realize that defensive driving is the key to accident free, safe vehicle operation. Defensive driving encompasses more than legal responsibility, it includes dedicating 100% to safety, and doing everything within one’s power to avoid any involvement in an accident. Our drivers follow the guidelines outlined below:

• Always run with headlights on
• Do not tailgate; allowing at least one vehicle length (65 feet) for every ten miles per hour
• Yield the right of way at all times
• Look first, then sound your horn before backing
• Obey all traffic laws at all times
• Never overdrive road conditions

 
All employees that drive a vehicle on company business are required to attend a defensive driving course as offered by the company at least once per year. If the course requirement is not met, employees cannot drive for Earth Transport Co. and the class must be completed within thirty days in order for the driver to return to work.

Driver Retraining - Any driver observed performing an unsafe act may be required by the company to attend in-house retraining. Examples:

• Speeding in school zones
• Speeding around parking lots
• Failure to stop or yield as directed by traffic control devices
• Passing in undesignated areas
• Tailgating
• Speeding or passing in pits or construction zones

Performance Incentive Program

Although each driver is expected to perform his/ her duties in a safe and professional manner each and every day, Earth Transport Co. wishes to reward those who go out of their way to do so. A safety and performance incentive program has been established as follows:

Professional Driver Award - Earth Transport Co. awards its drivers for excellence. The following criteria must be met by our drivers to qualify:

• Be employed by Earth Transport Co. from January 1 through December 31
• Has driven the award period with no preventable accidents
• Has received no moving violations for the period
• Has not received any weight citations where the driver could exercise control
• Have not had any verifiable hot-line or reasonable driving complaints

The awards are as follows:

• First year - Walnut laser engraved plaque
• Second year - Professional Driver Award jacket
• Third year - Craftsman tool kit
• Fourth year - $500 savings bond
• Fifth year - Clock/ barometer plaque
• Sixth year - One extra week of vacation
• Seventh year - $300 gift certificate
• Eighth year - 27" color television
• Ninth year - camcorder
• Tenth year - $500 gift certificate/ commemorative marble obelisk
